A Deep Dive Into D2C Brand Saphed’s Journey From Digital-First To Offline, The Ad Industry’s Tryst With Draft Broadcast Bill, BMC’s Draft OOH Guidelines for Advertisers, & More

Greetings of the day!

Dear Reader

Welcome to another edition of 'Scoop', your bi-weekly dose of news from Marketing Mind!

In the world where multinationals have seeped into our psyche’s as consumers and solved for almost every possible need-gap, it is the homegrown D2C brands which are carving a new niche for themselves. One such brand which has surely become the talk of the town for minimalist and aesthetic apparel that it is and that too with multiple celebrity sightings is Saphed. But did you know it wasn’t supposed to be a clothing brand? Founded by Shirin Salwan as a home linen brand in 2019 and growing 3X solely by listening to its customers, Saphed now intends to expand its presence from the digital realm to offline stores. Here’s its evolution story.

When a ‘bill’ generates consistent debates within an industry, it usually signals either a major breakthrough or considerable dissatisfaction for industry stakeholders. This perfectly encapsulates the current situation with the second draft of the Broadcasting Services (Regulation) Bill 2023. As concerns mount from various quarters, the MIB is preparing to release a revised draft following additional consultations.

As discussions swirl around the Broadcast Bill, another set of draft guidelines has captured the attention of the advertising industry. Following the Ghatkopar accident, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has now introduced the newly drafted revised OOH advertising policy guidelines, underscoring a crucial point that advertisers will now be held fully accountable for any actions, lawsuits, claims, damages, or demands arising from accidents.
