Cannes Lions 2024, Rajdeepak Das on India As Creative Superpower, Zairus Master On Honasa Consumer’s Growth...

Greetings of the day!

Dear Reader

As Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2024 comes to an end with India’s Creative contingent winning 18 Lions, for the 59 shortlists it had secured across 30 categories, it is unfortunate that the country’s total wins this year were the lowest in five years.

But, as creatives believe that the end of Cannes is the beginning of a new year, Rajdeepak Das, the man behind Leo Burnett India which has been leading India’s tally at Cannes for the past two years consecutively, is supremely confident that India will prove its mettle and become the World’s Creative Superpower in the next three-five years.

On the brand front as well, PepsiCo India’s Lay’s has amped up its Cannes Lions winning work- ‘Project Farm Equal’ with the launch of a commemorative stamp showcasing women farmers on the forefront to champion the unheard heroes of India’s agri ecosystem. Saumya Rathor, the woman behind Pepsi’s most recent ‘Rise Up’ communication who some time back began working on Lay’s spoke to us on how doing a big thing on a big brand, with the right intent, makes a big and real impact.

Having said that, while there were some misses and some wins at the Festival, the one campaign that caught everybody’s eyes was that of ‘Jindal steel: The Steel Of India’ for it once again brought to life the question- ‘Who owns the creative idea- Brand? Studio? Agency?’. Kondurkar Studio shares its POV on the same in its press note shared with us.

Coming to the Media and Entertainment (M&E) sector news, Disney Star Network has unveiled an advanced contextual advertising solution across its Hindi movie channels, Star Gold and Star Utsav Movies in a bid to revolutionise the way brands connect with its audiences.

But there’s more to this, as media doesn’t end just at channels but the people! Amidst top movers and shakers of the industry this week is Amazon Prime Video’s Aparna Purohit who has recently joined Aamir Khan Productions as CEO, Disney Star’s Gaurav Banerjee who has been onboarded as its new MD and CEO by Sony Pictures Networks India and ZEE’s Puneet Goenka who has acquired a majority stake in Maverick Media in his personal capacity.
